Scouted trail for a few miles with Brandon. It was a lovely cool, overcast Sunday; the sun came out to say hello at the tail end of our walk.

Day Twenty
Not as much a run as it was an old lady shuffle... Still babying my knee after yesterday's brutality. But today's mile can go in the books.

Day Eighteen
Day 18 completed.
For whatever reason, I saw a link for the Puzzler Trail Marathon that takes place tomorrow and decided to register for it today. Not sure how this is going to go, but it's bound to be an adventure!

Day Seventeen
I remembered today why I love running. That ache in my chest and the sweat down my back and the burn in my thighs that reminds me I'm alive! I was doing a comfortable 7:30 min/mile pace for the first mile and then dropped to an 8:30 for a half a mile, then I lit the fire under my ass and did the last half mile at a 6:00 pace. I was pushing hard and my body kept going! I was so excited, I wanted to keep going, but it was an abbreviated lunch today and I had to get back to work... Such is life, but at least running and I have worked things out and found that lovin feelin again :)
And then there is Brandon... Since I did it on the treadmill, he says it doesn't count. Obviously it doesn't mean I'm going to go run a 15:30 on the trail tomorrow (I have been challenged to prove that theory, challenge accepted coach!) but it does mean that I am getting my time down and I will get another 300 on PT test day 27 Feb.

Day Sixteen
Found my groove again!! I was so into running today! It felt great, it was hard and it burned, but it was so refreshing! I did a 7:24 mile! And a 24 min 5k! I ran on a treadmill, but I think it's the solution to this upper respiratory thing I have had, I'm trying it again tomorrow!

Day Thirteen
Skipped out on hashing because I wasn't feeling well, took a nap, played some Nintendo, and went to see a movie, almost forgot about the daily run! So when we pulled up at home after the movie I went for a jog right from the car, jeans and all. It felt good in the sense that I was happy to be running again :) but it made my cough flare back up. More Sudafed and good night sleep are next on the agenda!

Day Twelve
Today was the Ft Bliss Half Marathon. I am still in some sort of funk so it ended up being a 13 mile argument in my head. My body was capable and it didn't feel like I was pushing too hard. I did a 26 minute 5k and then did the Galloway method the rest of the way.
Around mile 10 I was so upset that it seems in the last couple days it seems I have misplaced my love of running, I was hoping I didn't make a PR. I must have subconsciously slowed down, missed the PR by 2 minutes, which I was completely okay with.
My normal techniques for getting myself pumped up weren't working today. The Zombie App was irritating me and I kept turning off my music, my usual motivational thoughts seemed preachy on my head. After the race we went to breakfast and I seemed to feel better about my relationship with running. I'll go for a makeup run at hash tomorrow.

Day Eleven
Jogged out the soreness from yesterday, still feeling deflated. Trying to get pumped up for this half marathon in the morning.
On the upside, I'm feeling the benefits in my waistline. And two high school friends joined me on Nike+ and I'm whooping their butts. That's right I said "wHOooping their butts."

Day Ten
The love of running escaped me today. Feeling blah about a bunch of things, thought a run would help, it only made me resent running, I knew then I needed to stop. After all, it's not running's fault I had a bad day, I shouldn't take it out on it. Ran a few laps after PT, couldn't find my grove today, taking a break, taking a nap, I'll visit running again in the morning.

Day Nine
Upped the mileage. Ran a lunch break 5k at the hospital track without music. Took my Soldiers to the gym for a 45 minute leg workout and then went for another 5k zombie evasion mission after work.
I'm determined to meet all my goals. The only one stopping me is me, I have to punch that bitch in her face and just get out there and do it!!
I am rewarding myself with a delicious cold Bud Light while I write this. Next up hot shower!

Day Eight
Ahhhh, Zombies, Run!
Today I tried out the Zombies, Run app for the first time, it was pretty fun. As an app, it really is a neat idea.
Still not feeling well, this upper respiratory thing feels worse today than yesterday. But, I went out and ran. Gonna call it a calm night, tomorrow I start 5.5 miles everyday until my birthday so I can meet the 500 Challenge before CPT Plotts PCSs. And it's good Boston training too!!

Day Seven
Back in El Paso, a beautiful cool, not cold, night. Got some upper respiratory thing going on, it felt like death. I just kept reminding myself, it's only one mile. I hope I feel better tomorrow, I need to pick up the mileage!!

Day Six
Last jog in Wisconsin, although it was the warmest and I went just as fast as yesterday, it felt slow and cold and terrible.
Six days and still going strong. Only 359 days left in the year, my time goes by so fast!

Day Five
Getting the hang of the snow! Dressed for the temp, got a little warm.
After a long day of hunting in the woods, as soon as we got out of the car back at home, I took off down the neighborhood. Brandon and his dad were looking at me like I was crazy because I was still in my jeans and hunting garb, I just yelled over my shoulder "it'll be okay, it's only a mile!!" 9 minutes and 32 seconds later I was knocking on the front door. Still pretty slow, but it's the fastest mile all year! Ha.

Day One
Its finally here, 2013. I made the commitment to run at least one mile everyday of the year. So time to get up and strap on the running shoes....
After bringing in the New Year in snowy Wisconsin in true party fashion by staying up way too early and drinking an irresponsible teenager amount of beer. I woke up today with the first hangover of the year, hungry and thirsty and probably still drunk. I rolled out of bed, yacked up some stomach acid and resolved that my 1mile run would not be done before breakfast.
I consumed mass amounts of hash towns and coffee and attempted to force hydrate. At 3 pm I laid down for a power nap that turned into almost two and a half hours. When I woke up it was dark. I was pretty upset that I had missed the sunshine and prime running time. I hopped out of bed, still hungry and thirsty and just an hour before getting drunk again.
I couldn't miss the first run of the year, starting off 365 days of running with a 0 would ruin the entire challenge. It was dark out and I knew the temperature was dropping. I haven't run in the snow since I lived in Alaska in 2006. I layered up, running pants, knee high socks, swear pants, tank top, long sleeve shirt, hoodie. I wanted to get out the door before I had a chance to change my mind so I skipped the music and got out the door.
It was a frigid 14 degrees out, I didn't give myself a chance to get chilly, I just took off down the street, I kept taking lefts in hopes of not getting lost. I couldn't run at full speed because of the snow and ice, a it was a nice slow jog pace. I ran around the neighborhoods enjoying the Christmas lights and the sound of the crunching snow. Some sidewalks were shoveled better and I could pick up the pace, on of the hills was iced over and I almost slowed to a walk. I jogged right to the house as my Garmin announced a mike. My cheeks were rosy, my tummy was grumbling, and my lungs were full of cool winter air. I felt good and went inside to get warm. Day one complete. Time for a beer!
